First Half
Swindon won a corner after 5 minutes of play then a couple of minutes later, they had two good chances to open the scoring. A driven cross from Comyn-Platt, in from the left, found ex-Wednesdayite Peacock ten yards from goal forcing his way between two defenders he tried to shoot left footed from six yards but scuffed the shot enabling Blayney to save. Then a long throw was headed out of the Rovers defence to Paul Smith, who hit his shot wide from 20 yards. After 14 minutes, the Rovers got into the game when Price won a corner, which was eventually cleared.
Comyn-Platt picked up the clearance, went clear but shot from 20 yards that went well over the bar. The Rovers had a brief spell in the Swindon half but only had a shot from McIndoe, which was comfortably saved by Evans, to show for it. Back came the home team, with Cureton shooting from 30 yards. Blayney rather casually dropped it with the linesman saying it had gone out for a corner.
The pressure continued as Swindon had two successive corners, from the second of which Shakes headed after Blayney missed his punch into the net for the opening goal after 29 minutes.
The match settled down into a more even contest as the Rovers tried to hit back. Five minutes from time McCormack had the ball whipped off his toes as he lined the ball up to shoot, then Price had a great strike from 25 yards deflected for a corner.
In added time, Shakes broke clear on the right but Griffith chased him down then held him up to allow the defenders to get back. Shakes got into the penalty area and crossed but the ball hit Griffith's hands as he turned his back. A loud appeal for a penalty by the home team and fans brought no reaction from the officials. The corner was swung in for Peacock to head for the top corner of the net but Blayney produced a great save to tip the ball out for another corner but the referee blew for the cessation of play leaving Swindon to go in with the one goal lead.
Second Half
The Rovers came out for the second half no doubt with some wise words from Manager Penney ringing in their ears. But it was the home team who showed up first when Shakes went away down the right but shot wide from distance.
At the other end, Price got in a shot which he rather hurriedly screwed wide. With ten minutes gone, Price cleared a home corner out to Jack Smith, 20 yards from goal . His fierce drive had Blayney diving to his right to push away.
Over the next few minutes the home team pushed on, with Cureton firing wide then a minute later going down the right and shooting from an angle that had Blayney beating it out, with Albrighton completing the clearance. On 57 minutes, the pressure paid off when a cross from the Swindon left was sidefooted by Cureton to an unmarked Comyn-Platt, who blasted past Blayney for a second goal.
