Scunthorpe 1-2 Rovers

First Half

Scunthorpe started the more posotive of the two teams with Sharp hacking a shot well wide from the right hand side of Rovers box.

Loan Signing McCormack had a pop at goal from 30 yards out but it bobbled wide. the game was stuck at a stalemate in midfield for the next 10 minutes, but Scunthorpe forced a corner on the left although it came to nothing.

A few minutes later, McCormack played a brilliant cross heading towards McIndoe on the right forced Evans to rush out of his goal to beat him to it.

As we hit the half-way in the first half, Scunthorpe had Taylor rob McDaid of the ball on the halfway line, he ran down the wing to the byline and crossed into to the middle but Fenton was there to clear for a corner, this was cleared initialy but Beagrie then went down to the left touchline and crossed for Keogh to head just wide.

On the half hour mark, Scunthorpe won a succession of corners, of which nothing came of, however, a few minutes later, Sharp nipped around Albrighton hit the ball from 15 yards forcing Blayney to stick a leg out to knock the ball over the bar for a corner, which was headed just wide by ex-Rover, Steve Foster.

The rest of the half saw Scunthorpe continuously attacking the Rovers box but their only reward was a couple of corners and a piledriver from 25 yards by Baraclough that went wide.

Second Half

Scunthorpe subbed MacKenzie for GOODWIN, who had been yellow carded just before half-time. With his first touch of the ball he found the net with a header from a Beagrie cross in from the left.

On 64 minutes, the Rovers made their first attack on the the home penalty area with a long free kick from Blayney, which went high and very deep into Scunthopes penalty area, McINDOE stabbing into the net whith a first time volley.

The Rovers grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and Green cracked in a low drive from 20 yards that had Evans scrambling at the bottom of the right post to put it out for a corner.

The match suddenly became interesteing and was end to end until the 89th minute when the Rovers attacked, Scunthorpe cleard but only as far as LEE, 35 yards out hit a terrific shot that sailed over Evans into the top corner of the net.

A minute later and the match got violent, A crazy tackle by Coppinger on Baraclough saw a mass scuffle in which Torpey laid hands on Coppinger. Both Coppinger and Torpey were sent off.

After that, the full time whistle blew, Scunthorpe 1-2 Rovers, 3 points in the bag whith two games in hand from the play-off places.
