Well Blackpool is a cracking place to go for a weekend at anytime but when the Mighty Rovers are in town then it is a must.
On the hottest day so far this year Rovers fans were out in force to welcome their heroes.
As promised, DP had made changes to the team with Rigoglioso partnering Roberts up front and Ravenhill in midfield with Doolan. McIndoe was on the bench and McSporran was wide on the left. Warrington was dropped to the bench (injury) thus giving the new goalie, Turner, his first start.
The game got off to a brisk start with Rovers clearly meaning business. Then the fun truly started with Blackpool having a man sent off. I thought at the time it was a well-deserved red card but after seeing it on “Rovers World” it was a bit harsh – that is was only a red!
Despite playing against 10 men for most of the game Rovers still found it difficult to break down a determined Blackpool side.
Tim Ryan managed a goal late in the first half with a scorcher into the top right hand corner. Loudly cheered by the Rovers he was remorselessly booed by the Blackpool fans.
So 1-0 at half time and time to bake in the afternoon sunshine.
As has been the case with Rovers games recently, the second half did not give up to the first half. Rovers still dominated but their lack of clinical finishing once again exposed them to the dangers of a determined foe. And so, to nobody’s great surprise, Blackpool managed an equaliser. A messy goal, but then aren’t they all these days.
Rovers could have snatched it in the dying minutes but it was all too late.
Still the golden mile beckoned and a wet weekend…
I just hope DP found the trip to Blackpool and the many changes more illuminating than I did!
