Simon Cox produced an outstanding debut to earn Oxford United a 0-0 draw against leaders Doncaster Rovers as Graham Rix took charge of team for the first time.
Cox, who has not even been on the bench this season with previous manager Ian Atkins refusing to name a replacement goalkeeper on the bench, only knew he was playing an hour and 15 minutes before kick off.
Regular goalkeeper Andy Woodman hurt his back over night, and Rix wasted little time in giving Cox his first taste of league football.
And the 20-year-old made a series of stunning saves to thwart Doncaster on several occasions.
A mistake from Oxford captain Andrew Crosby handed Chris Brown a golden opportunity to put the visitors in front but Cox raced off his line to close down the shot and push the ball behind for a corner.
Michael McIndoe was next to try his luck, but Cox was once again equal to his long range shot.
Oxford offered little in the way of an attacking threat. Leading scorer Steve Basham seeing his shot on the turn well saved by Andy Warrington.
After an instantly forgetable first half, Doncaster continued to pose the greater threat after the break, but could not find a way past the inspired Cox.
Mark Albrighton saw his header well saved before a stunning 30 yard shot from the same player saw Cox make a stunning save.
Paul Green saw his shot kept out by the Oxford stopper, but Cox saved the best till last, racing off his line to save bravely at the feet of Dave Mulligan three minutes into stoppage time.
Rix, who only met the players five days earlier, was delighted with both the result and the performance of his goalkeeper.
"My boys put everything into it today, and I was delighted with them," he said.
"Coxy was delighted originally to be on the bench, but when asked to step in he jumped at the chance and he did brilliantly." Doncaster manager David Penney could not believe his side failed to pick up all three points.
"We deserved more than we got today, but to be honest I would have settled for a point at the start," he said.
"We had more than enough chances to win the game, but their keeper has had a worldly today and fair play to him."
