Ex-Nuneaton goal ace Paul Barnes returned to his former stamping ground to score twice and ensure Doncaster ended their five-match run without a win.
Meanwhile it was Boro's third successive defeat that leaves them toiling in the bottom six after conceding 14 goals in their last five home matches.
Barnes, who was taking his tally to six goals this season, opened his account in time added on at the end of the first period while he completed his double after the break as the Yorkshiremen netted twice in a minute, Andy Watson being the other marksman.
There was a bright start for the hosts with Michael Love and Jamie Squires both testing their luck from long range but on each occasion keeper Andy Warrington was equal to the task.
A poor bounce then robbed Paul Green of a good opportunity for Rovers following some indifferent home defending.
The visitors found borough hard to handle and when a flowing move involving newcomer Roy Hunter and Mark Quayle offered Craig Woodley an opportunity, his low drive was saved by Warrington at the second attempt as Quayle failed to capitalise on his initial fumble.
Midway through the half, the visitors were denied the lead by home keeper Chris MacKenzie, who superbly parried away Barnes' 15-yard cross shot while just before the half hour at the opposite end Gary Jones raced clear and though his drive struck the legs of Warrington, Quayle's follow-up shot was blocked by defender Simon Marples when a goal looked certain.
At the opposite end Sharples' cross was met by Watson's full blooded volley only for the ball to bounce off Squires and run away to safety.
But in the third minute of injury time it was Doncaster who broke the deadlock from a dubious penalty. Green raced into the area and under pressure from Love went to ground, referee Kevin Wright immediately pointed to the spot from where Barnes made no mistake.
After the interval Barnes and Justin Jackson set up Watson who broke inside Andy Thackeray, but his rising drive was again superbly pushed away by MacKenzie.
Quayle had a crossshot fly across the face of goal and then MacKenzie had to be alert to cut out a Jackson centre aimed for the lurking Barnes, who soon after had a goalbound effort hit Thackeray and bounced away.
But Rovers sewed up the points with two goals in 60 seconds beginning on the 70-minute mark, Warrington's long clearance was totally misjudged by Squires leaving Jackson to race through unchallenged and though his firm drive was brilliantly parried by MacKenzie, Barnes clinically dispatched the rebound high into the net.
Within 60 seconds there was more woe for Boro, Jackson setting up Watson who thundered a powerful 15-yarder past the helpless MacKenzie to seal the points for Rovers and add to Nuneaton's worries
