It was a game of two halves - as football matches often are.
A first-half that was exciting (yes it was) followed by a second-half that was easily forgotten.
Brentford started smartly too with Stuart Nelson (a former Rover) using the strong breeze well to put the wind up Warrington. However, the resultant goal from his long kick was disallowed due to pushing. From where I was it looked ok but if the goalie fails to collect it must surely be a foul.
Rovers’ best chance of the first half fell to Roberts who managed to put a short-range volley over the bar. To be fair to him it wasn't an easy chance and to be even fairer to him, I would never have got my leg anywhere near high enough.
The second half saw a Doolan power shot well saved (appropriately one-handed) by Nelson. That was the best, and last effort of the game.
Rovers were once again victim of their own inability to create chances and put them away. They were far the better footballing side than Brentford who preferred to hoof the ball.
The match came to a comical end when Leo Fortune West came on in the dying seconds of the game. It was good though to see him back on the pitch after a long lay off - even if it only served to remind the ref that time was up.
I wasn't going to mention the ref. The lack of legal aid makes that a practical solution. Still he wont have noticed. He didn’t seem capable of noticing too much.
Anyway, at the end of the day, 0-0 is not a bad result against a team that held Southampton not long ago and were far better placed for a play off spot than we were at the start.
Roll on Blackpool and the next game...
