The introduction of Brian Quailey on the hour mark turned the game for Doncaster Rovers in their 2-0 victory over cash-strapped Leigh RMI at Hilton Park.

The ex-Scunthorpe United forward who was on trial with Rovers was the difference between the two sides setting up Paul Barnes' penalty in the 83rd minute and then following up with a deft pass for Justin Jackson to finish clinically.

Although it was stalemate for most of the game the visitors had the slight edge over a team whose players continually wonder where their wages will come from.

Kevin Sandwith had a shot well saved by Stuart Coburn before RMI hit back with lively Dino Maamria shooting over.

Tony Black was booked for a late tackle on man of the match Gareth Owen in the 18th minute before Maamria again wasted two chances.

First of all he volleyed wide from Phil Salt's free-kick and then when free he shot from the edge of the box only to see Andy Warrington pull off a fine blocking save.

Jackson then got to the byline on the right before crossing too deep and a minute later he did the same thing from the left.

Warrington was again in action after the break when Dominic Ludden's cross was headed down by Black with the keeper saving bravely.

Owen broke through on 68 minutes to rattle the post before Quailey drove into the box and crashed in a shot that Coburn did well to see let alone save.

The Doncaster pressure finally paid off seven minutes from time when Wayne Maden sent Jackson tumbling in the box. Maden was booked and Barnes scored from the spot.

Quailey's quality came to the fore right on the final whistle with a slick pass to Jackson just inside the box and he finished with a left-foot drive past the helpless Coburn
