First Half

Rovers Kicked off the match in what was going to be a cracking encounter. The first five minutes were spent getting the measure of each other before the Rovers won the first corner of the game. At the other end, Brandon got in a shot from 15 yards that bounced twice before it reached the keeper, Budtz.

On 9 minutes, the home team won a corner on their right. The ball bobbled about in the Rovers area before McINTOSH stabbed in from close range for the opening goal. The home team then pressed hard and the Rovers defence found themselves under severe pressure.

The ball reached Price 25 yards from goal but he shot well wide. Back came the home team and won a corner on their right. It fell to Booth who hit a crisp, rising drive which Budtz did well to get a fingertip to and put it over the bar. From the ensuing corner, Marples brought the ball out of defence, ran fully 50 yards before losing the ball.

Rovers regained possession, PRICE received the ball and rifled into the top corner from 25 yards to equalise on 15 minutes. The Rovers were now well in the game as it became end-to-end. Both sides looked dangerous on the attack. As the half hour came up, Booth, for the home team, got his head to a bouncing ball inside the Rovers 6 yard area, which looked all on a goal but somehow Budtz got a sufficient hand on it to push it away. Minutes later, Price got a good bounce of the ball but his shot from 18 yards was easily saved.

McCormack put Green in, despite the home crowd screaming for offside but he it hit straight at Senior in the home goal. On 40 minutes, the referee awarded Huddersfield a free kick on the left touchline. Well placed to the far post, Booth headed back into the middle for GRAHAM to toe-end from close range wide of Budtz for a second goal to the Terriers. Keeping the pressure on to the break, the Rovers defence had their backs to the wall. Half time arrived with the home team going in with a 2-1 lead.

Second Half

The Rovers had the first opportunity upon the resumption of play. A cross from the left by Coppinger to Price on the right was headed back to the middle where McCormack just failed to get on the end of it. At the Rovers end, Graham shot wildly over from 25 yards. Back came the Rovers for Mulligan to cross from the left, Fortune-West headed down for McCormack to volley into Senior's arms. With ten minutes gone, the Rovers made a double substitution, Heffernan and McIndoe coming on for Fortune West and Coppinger.

On 59 minutes, a sweeping move gave GREEN a chance that he took well with a firm, fierce drive into the bottom corner to once again equalise the score. Each side matched each other in their endeavours to score more goals and Booth thought he had again put the home side in front after 69 minutes when heading in from a corner but the referee disallowed it for some infringement.

Worthington then had Budtz at full stretch to push away a shot and Nathan Clarke turned smartly in the Rovers area but fired wide. A good build up by the Rovers ended with McCormack hammering a shot just wide from 30 yards. Huddersfield made a couple of late substitutions to try and force a winner but the referee blew time on a splendid hard fought game, with each side getting a well earned point.
