A second-half own goal from visiting full back Tim Ryan handed Halifax Town their best win of the season.
Ryan put through his own net after 57 minutes under pressure from striker Simon Parke as they tussled to meet a Stuart Elliot free kick.
Seconds later debutant striker Brian Quailey almost made it 3-1 but narrowly failed to steer the ball in at the far post.
Victory for Halifax stretched their unbeaten run to four matches while ending Doncaster's unbeaten start to the Conference campaign.
Rovers started the match as leaders with an impressive six wins out of seven and started as if intent on finishing the game by half time.
Impressive midfielder Andy Watson was unlucky with three fine efforts within the opening 11 minutes.
Twice Watson was denied from Jamie Paterson corners with Alistair Asher clearing the first effort off the line and Watson firing inches wide with a carbon copy effort.
Home goalkeeper Lee Butler enjoyed a wonderful evening but was saved by the base of a post after Watson beat him from distance after 11 minutes.
The veteran stopper then pulled off a suberb save to deny Ricky Ravenhill on the line and 11 minutes later was at full stretch to claw away Robert Gill's attempted lob.
Halifax weathered the constant pressure with plucky determination and took a shock lead five minutes before the break when Phil Clarkson forced home a Ryan Mallon corner at the near post.
But the home side let their lead slip on the stroke of half time when Paul Barnes swivelled in the area to score from six yards.
The high tempo of the first half continued after the break with Doncaster pouring forward and missing a hatful of chances through a combination of fine goalkeeping and poor finishing.
But Halifax held their nerve throughout over seven minutes of stoppage time to pull off their best win of the new season
