Doncaster were presented with the Third Divison Championship trophy as their jubilant fans celebrated at the finish.

But there were tears from the Carlisle supporters in their last league game before relegation to the Conference.

Rovers defied the odds to win the title after being among the favourites for relegation themselves before a ball had been kicked.

But they were unable to reproduce their championship form in a drab first half that had a distinct end of season feel.

Carlisle looked the side more likely to score in the first period as Rovers failed to land a single shot on target.

But the Cumbrians' finishing was poor with Will McDonagh and Adam Rundle wasting a couple of chances although Andy Preece was unlucky to see a well struck shot clawed round the post by Andy Warrington.

Doncaster picked up the pace after the interval with top scorer Gregg Blundell testing visiting keeper Matt Glennon for the first time after dribbling through the middle in the 59th minute.

Adriano Rigoglioso was unlucky to see a goal bound shot bounce off team-mate Blundell seconds later with Glennon beaten.

Another great run from Rigoglioso led to a chance in the 62nd minute but Glennon spread himself to make a fine save.

Doncaster should have taken the lead four minutes later when they were awarded a penalty after Blundell had been brought down by Peter Murphy.

The Rovers top scorer picked himself up to take the spot kick but Glennon showed great reflexes to save at the foot of the post.

Blundell made ammends in the 69th minute when he headed home his 20th goal of the season following a free kick from Francis Tierney.

Carlisle battled until the finish but were denied an equaliser when Warrington made a brilliant save to keep out a cracking effort from substitute Kevin Henderson
