Doncaster L Farnborough L

There was no knee-jerk reaction from Doncaster boss Dave Penney as he resisted the opportunity to make changes following last Saturday's humiliating collapse at Telford.

Rovers fielded the same starting line-up from the weekend and Farnborough manager Graham Westley made just the one change from the side that overwhelmed Halifax with Joff Vansittart replacing Tony Taggart and forming a strike partnership with Doncaster-based Christian Lee.

Rovers showed obvious signs of tension in the early play but were thrown a golden opportunity to have taken the lead midway though the first half.

Farnborough midfielder Gary Holloway needlessly handled Fran Tierney's corner but Paul Barnes' spot-kick cannoned off the upright and bounced away from the goal.

The frustration in the home camp and among Rover supporters was all to evident but perseverance paid off when Doncaster scored the only goal of the game on 63 minutes.

Doncaster defender Dean Barrick, rightly nominated man of the match, hit a pinpoint cross from the left and Tierney headed powerfully past the stranded Tony Pennock in the Boro goal.

Doncaster looked to increase their lead, roared on by a partisan home crowd of almost 3,500, as the visitors frantically resisted a home bombardment.

Somehow the expected increase in the scoreline failed to materialize and in a final three minutes of rapid-fire action, Rovers defender Dave Morley twice played off the line.

Doncaster keeper Andy Warrington was also instrumental in keeping a clean sheet for the home side, particularly rewarding after Rovers' defence had conceded four in a bizarre second half at Telford two days earlier
