Promotion-hopefuls Doncaster produced another sorry looking display and could have no complaints after crashing to their second home defeat in a row.
Northwich looked the livelier side right from the start with Doncaster appearing rusty after going three weeks without a game.
Rovers' defensive kingpin Tim Ryan was booked after only two minutes following a foul on Richard Norris in his return to the side following a lengthy absence through injury.
Northwich were the first to threaten when impressive defender Denny Ingram hit a wind assisted long-range free-kick just over the bar in the fourth minute.
Jake Sedgemore was closer when he was only inches wide with a curling 30-yard free-kick a couple of minutes later.
Doncaster's build-up was far too ponderous whereas the visitors relied on quick breakaway attacks for their attempts at goal.
Sedgemore went close again in the 26th minute with a shot from near the touchline which almost caught home keeper Andy Warrington napping but it sailed just over the crossbar.
Despite their poor showing it was Rovers who took the lead in the 33rd minute with their first attack of note. Dean Barrick started the move with a superb diagonal pass to Andy Watson, who slipped a clever ball through to Paul Barnes who fired across the keeper from close range.
Justin Jackson latched on to a rare mistake by Ingram just before the interval but hit a left-foot shot wide of the mark.
Northwich stepped up the pace in the second half with Sedgemore having a shot cleared off the line by Steve Foster following a well worked move.
Barnes had an effort deflected by Ingram at the other end before top scorer Gregg Blundell hit a first-time shot just wide in the 55th minute.
Northwich levelled the scores in the 59th minute when Dave McNiven converted a penalty, sending Warrington the wrong way after Barrick had brought down Mark Devlin.
The visitors went in front eight minutes later with an opportunist strike from Blundell, who pounced from close range following a free-kick by Steve Garvey.
Rovers were unable to raise their game as they tried to hit back and it was Blundell who went close again to scoring, with a header just off the mark 12 minutes from time.
