A 75th minute goal form Jamie Paterson kept Doncaster on the promotion trail after they had been pushed all the way by the struggling visitors.
Rovers produced a sub-standard first-half performance in which they struggled for ideas and imagination and generally looked second best.
They stepped up the pace after the interval and were rewarded with PatersonÂ’s bolt from the blue which made it six points out of six over the festive period.
Leigh were unlucky after producing a tremendous hard-working display with Neil Tolson delivering a tireless performance while Nicky Hill and Gerry Harrison were outstanding at the heart of the defence.
The visitors had themselves to blame for missing chances with Ged Courtney squandering a great opportunity in the third minute after Andy Heald had created the opening.
Courtney had a deflected effort saved a couple of minutes later and Neil Fisher was just unable to connect with a superb cross from Tolson in the 17th minute.
Tarkan Mustafa produced some good work to enable Paterson to cut inside before having a left-foot shot well saved in the 24th minute.
Stuart Coburn did well to stop a header from Paul Barnes on the stroke of half time and Rovers grew stronger in the second half.
Chris Beech had a good shot blocked and Paterson hit the side-netting before Rovers made the breakthrough 15 minutes from time.
Paterson picked the ball up on the right and cut inside before catching Coburn out with a well-struck shot inside the near post from the edge of the box.
