Scarborough gained revenge for their heaviest home defeat of the season and ended Doncaster's faint hopes of capturing the Conference title.

It was no more than the Seadogs deserved after working tremendously hard against a first half gale before snatching the winner eight minutes after the interval.

Doncaster were a pale shadow of the side that crushed the same opponents 5-2 away on Boxing Day and could have no complaints about the result.

The crowd of 4,155 suffered a big disappointment before the start when Rovers new signings Gregg Blundell and Tyrone Thompson were both ruled out injured after earlier being declared fit to play.

Rovers struggled to find their form throughout but had more of the play in the first half with a powerful wind at their backs.

But they failed to use the conditions to their best advantage and never really looked like scoring in the first period.

Conference hot-shot Paul Barnes headed well wide in the 20th minute with Doncaster's first attempt at goal after Robert Gill and Chris Beech had combined to create the opening.

But visiting keeper Andy Woods did well to save from the veteran striker eight minutes later when he placed a more accurate effort on target.

Paul Green and Francis Tierney both failed to make the most of scoring opportunities before Scarborough began to edge their way into the game before the interval.

Bimbo Fatokun had a shot deflected inches wide following good work from striker Gary Cohen before David Ridler fired inches wide.

It was Scarborough who snatched the lead in the 53rd minute when defender Mohammed Sillah fired home from close range after Rovers had failed to clear their lines following a corner.

Cohen was not far off the mark with an ambitious long-range lob a minute later before Sillah went close again.

Rovers attacking play improved following the introduction of lively winger Tristram Whitman but still they failed to impress.

Green and Barnes both failed with late opportunities in front of goal as the visitors held out comfortably for three well-deserved points.
