Doncaster Rovers moved to within three points of Nationwide Conference leaders Yeovil Town with a richly deserved victory on their first ever visit to Eton Park.

The Yorkshiremen were far more convincing winners than the score might suggest, Burton's only goal coming through a late and controversial Jason Kavanagh penalty.

With more than 800 travelling fans cheering them on, Rovers' extra sharpness and slick passing had Burton defending desperately at times in a one-sided contest.

Robert Gill and Dave Morley both went close before veteran striker Paul Barnes put Rovers in front in the 13th minute.

Andy Watson's cross from the left was driven against the far post by Jamie Paterson and Barnes was on hand to shoot into the empty net for his 10th league goal of the season.

Simon Marples scooped a close-range shot wide and Burton keeper Matt Duke did well to cling on to a low drive from the elusive Gill as Rovers threatened to have the points wrapped up by half time.

In the event, they had to wait only until the 47th minute for the goal that effectively sealed their victory.

Watson again caused more havoc on the left before providing a low cross that Gill steered home from six yards.

Doncaster were rarely threatened and Gill should have added to their lead before Burton were handed a late lifeline.

Ricky Ravenhill was harshly adjudged to have handled substitute Paul Talbot's cross in the 81st minute, Kavanagh sending Andy Warrington the wrong way from the penalty spot.

But it did not change the course of the game, with Rovers deservedly holding on as the Brewers pressed for a late equaliser.
