Doncaster midfielder Richie Wellens has hit out at the abuse he received at Blackpool on Saturday after helping to subject his former club to a 3-2 defeat.

Wellens played for the Seasiders for five years before leaving in the summer of 2005 and was at the centre of the incident which saw Blackpool's on-loan Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam sent off.

Adam was dismissed for a stamp on Wellens and as he received treatment at the side of the pitch following the incident, a large group of Blackpool fans gathered to verbally abuse him.

"They can say all they like, that I've conned the ref or I've influenced anything. But the lad stamped on me.

"Someone can swear at me all they like but when they've got children in their hands, I just don't think its right
