With the Rovers Championship status guaranteed following last weekend's 3-0 win at Plymouth, and leading scorer Paul Heffernan having had surgery on a damaged cartilage yesterday, Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll is considering giving the former youth team star a start against the Eagles.
"Waide's been champing at the bit for quite a while." he said yesterday.
"Sometimes players find it difficult to step up from the youth team, but he's got a little bit of a Jack-the-lad about him in a good way, so the senior professionals have accepted him and he's been excellent in training.
"We sent him out on loan to Solihull Borough, which was a standard which he was far too good for, but his attitude was first class and they were really impressed with him.
"Everything we've thrown at him he has gobbled up and wants more.
"Some young players find it hard when they move up to this level and try and grasp some of the things that we do, but he's been first class."
Fairhurst has the potential to be the best player to come out of the Rovers' youth team since Paul Green.
"He has good feet and scores goals," said O'Driscoll.
"I've said all along that we'd like to have played him more. But these last two games gives us the opportunity to bring him in without the pressure of needing points.
"There will be other pressure on him to perform as it is. Waide will want to do well and we'll want him to perform.
"He's fit enough to play a full game so I would have no problems starting him or whatever.
"I'd also like to see Kazenga (LuaLua) as well as we've taken him on loan from Newcastle.
"We've seen flashes of him and he's done well in training.
"As I say, we've got the opportunity to blood one or two players, but we've got to do it in a way which will benefit them.
"The team has got to be strong enough for them to do well or else everybody will suffer.
"We'll look to see who we've got available today before coming to a decision.
