Manager Sean O'Driscoll, who is keen on improving the club's abysmal goalscoring tally this season, has confirmed that he is keen on bringing the much-travelled 39-year-old veteran striker to The Keepmoat Stadium on loan.

However, O'Driscoll is unsure as to whether Rovers' will have the available finance's available to lure Windass to the the club.

"Dean played against us in a recent behind-closed-doors friendly," O'Driscoll told the Sheffield Star.

"He's intimated on various occasions that he likes the way we play. We made enquiries about Dean, but I think that there would be various clubs interested in him if he were to become available.

"He is not going to go to another Premier Division club, so I imagine if he did go out on loan it would be to a Championship or League One club.

"If I can find someone, and we can afford them, then I will bring them in. But it is not like playing Championship Manager on the computer.

"We are one of those clubs who are in a financial band that means if you step outside of it you are into mega, mega money.

"So quality players that you need are few and far between, allied to the finance that you can afford."
