Had Birmingham City been more up front with their £1.5m bid for Matt Mills in the January transfer window, the centre-back could have been playing against Rovers tomorrow at the Keepmoat Stadium.
The Blues had watched Mills a number of times and were determined to buy him to bolster their defence
Although Mills could now be within sight of a return to the Premier League had he joined the Blues, he has remained focused.
Said O'Driscoll: "We kept Matt fully informed of developments so he knew what was going on and it has not affected his game."
Due to their interest in Mills, the Blues' players will be well briefed.
"But I think that if Alex McLeish went into the dressing room before the game and said we've got to do this and we've got to change that, the players would look puzzled and probably say this isn't Real Madrid, it's Doncaster.
"I think he knows what this division is like and he sends his team out to get results, no matter what and, to be fair to him, he's been successful at it."
Like the other two top three sides, the Blues have not been as impressive of late as earlier in the season.
Said O'Driscoll: "I think that they base their game probably on their physical prowess and their ability to run and to chase and it is difficult to maintain that when you get towards the end of the season."
Rovers feel that they owe the visitors one after tasting an early-season 1-0 defeat at St Andrews.
"I think that we took them by surprise really," said O'Driscoll. "But we lost the game and that was the start of a run of games where we came off thinking: 'how the hell did we lose that?'
"If I walk of the pitch tomorrow saying:'How did we win that?' then I'll be absolutely delighted."
