Rovers set for tough test at home to Wolves
Despite it being billed as director of football Mickey Walker's testimonial match, both sides are treating the game seriously.
Said Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll "I think when it was first mooted that Wolves would come and bring a team for Mickey's testimonial, both parties were keen to make it a competitive game, as was Mickey.
"On our schedule it was always going to be the game when we thought that we are going to be tested. One of Wolves' criteria in bringing a side up here was that it was going to be a proper game, and that is good for everybody including the punters who come and both sets of players."
Supporters looking for clues as to what O'Driscoll considers to be his strongest side ahead of next week's opener at Watford, may go away disappointed.
For the Rovers boss has no plans to play his 'Watford' team during the game and will continue to mix and match.
He said: "We need to prepare the whole squad and that's what we'll do. We don't need just to have 11 players up and running, we need to have 18, 19 or 20 who feel that they can come into the team.
"One of our strengths is that we are flexible and that we can change things and we need to keep that going. So everybody will be involved and everyone will play a part."
O'Driscoll is again expected to change things around during the interval.
"I've done that ever since I have been here," he said.
"We can train on the day of the game and play for 45 minutes and we can train after the game.
"Players with teams who play for 90 minutes usually don't do anything before or after the game."
O'Driscoll has already intimated that the two trialists on debut at Grimsby in midweek, will feature at some stage, and there could be at least one other new face.
"If there is a chance that we could sign them, then we'll give somebody a game," he said.
"I don't want to bring anyone in on a whim.
"If anyone appears it will be because there is a chance that we could sign him."
Centre-half Matt Mills is one of several players expected to return after missing the midweek win at Grimsby.
