The first positive signal was the official League Managers' Association award handed to the club yesterday.

The panel of Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry reckoned that Rovers' splendid display in the 2-0 win over high flyers Cardiff City in their last outing was worthy of being named LMA Performance of the Week.

The other came when manager Sean O'Driscoll heralded Brian Stock's display on his Wales debut.

"He looked as if he was born to play international football. He looked the part and did really well," said the Rovers boss who travelled to Cardiff with his assistant, Richard O'Kelly, to support the midfielder.

"His performance certainly warranted him getting his chance. He took it really well and I reckon that he will be in the squad for Wales' next international in Finland next month."

"Brian showed his commitment by being straight back in here yesterday morning," he said. "We didn't really expect that straight after a tough international the night before. He clearly wanted to turn his attention and his focus on the next job in hand, the game at Reading. .

Although likely to stick with the side that defeated Cardiff, O'Driscoll has the option of using Billy Sharp who is available for the first time since moving from Sheffield United to the Keepmoat on a season-long loan.
