"I am absolutely delighted that Wolves will be providing the opposition," said Rovers' director of football, Mickey Walker.
"The game had been arranged for a few weeks but it was dependent on Wolves being promoted to the Premier League which they have, for it to go ahead because we didn't want to be playing another Championship side in our last pre-season game.
"I am delighted to be playing Wolves on three counts.
"Firstly, their manager Mick McCarthy is from Barnsley and is a good friend of mine, and Rovers' manager, Sean O'Driscoll is an avid Wolves fan and thirdly, they will be bringing a full strength squad.
"If we had been playing such as Liverpool or Manchester United they would probably have sent a reserve side.
"I didn't want it to be a Mickey Mouse-type of game and with Sean promising to field his strongest squad it should prove a competitive game.
"The season starts the following week so both teams will be primed and ready for action.
"It will be the only football match to be played on the pitch during the close season so the pitch should look resplendent.
"I hope the fact that it is the only match that Rovers will play at home during the close season, due to the ground improvements, will add to the interest.
"We've not yet decided on the price of tickets, but there will be a special programme which will cover all the events during my testimonial year.
"A lot of big names have agreed to pen an article and hopefully it will be a good read."
Rovers have also arranged an away game at The Don Valley Stadium, home of local minnows Rotherham United (if anyones interested)
