Rovers Brian Stock looking forward to taking on Preston
But despite spending a frustrating nine months at Deepdale following his £150,000 move from Bournemouth, Stock bears no grudges.
"These things happen in football," he said.
"Billy Davies signed me in January but then left to take over at Derby in the summer and I didn't really feel wanted after that and when I got the chance to link up with Sean O'Driscoll again at Doncaster on loan, I took it.
"I felt wanted in my three months on loan at Doncaster and that played a big part in my decision to come here on a full-time basis, as did the club's plans.
"Probably some people thought at the time that it was a bad career move.
"But I regarded it more of a case of taking one step backward to move two steps forward, and that is what has happened.
"I certainly wouldn't have experienced the heights of the last three years had I stayed at Preston and coming to Doncaster has proved a good move for me.
"I played in the game at Deepdale last season but missed the home game in April so I'm really looking forward to today's game
"They finished strongly last season to make the play-offs, after they looked to have blown their chances, and they have started well this season.
"So it will be a hard game because they are a hard- working, well-organised side as well as being a good footballing team.
"But despite losing two of our top players in Richie Wellens and Matt Mills, we still have a lot of good players at the club and we have yet to be beaten in pre-season and our two games so far.
"We picked up a good point at Watford and we'll be looking to pick up three today."
