"He is one of those players we've looked at ever since he was at Scunthorpe" said Rovers No 2 Richard O'Kelly of the 23-year-old Sheffielder."We've envied the side (Sheffield United) that he plays for because he's a natural goal-scorer."When he played at Scunthorpe he had the ability to play up front in a pair; he could also play on this own.
"Everything about the boy fits in with the way we play and how we do things, and we are really pleased to have got him for the season."Rovers gave a run out to a Slovakian trialist striker yesterday in a practice game against Leeds United."He did ok," said O'Kelly " "He did some good things and he has got a good touch and a good football awareness. But we have decided not to take it any further at this stage, though we'll continue to monitor him."
Rovers also signed Scottish midfielder Jack Wilson on a short-term contract."He's a 19 year old player who was recommended to us by Tony Mowbray" said O'Kelly."He's with Hibs, but he's not going to play up there because he's a little dot.""He's not the biggest of players but he has got a bright football brain and he has got two good feet and likes to get at people.
"We have had him for the last few days and he is a good footballer. He probably wants to play in the centre of midfield, but he'll probably play in an area like John Oster."
Rovers have also extended the loan period of Wolves' centre-back Jason Shackell until January 2010."The gaffer wanted to extend the loan deal and I have enjoyed the past few week's. I'm happy to stay, play some games and help the team whilst putting in some good performances for myself as well" said Shackell.
