The only change for this game from the team that played MK Dons, were Richard Offiong replacing James Coppinger and Lewis Guy in for Jonathan Forte.
First Half
Swansea started the first 5 minutes in the rovers half, with Tudur-Jones cracking off two long range shots, Budtz easily saving and the other high and wide. They also had the first corner of the game but it was easily cleared out. On 8 minutes, the Rovers finally got into the Swansea half, with Offiong getting a shot inbut it was saved by Swansea keeper Guerret.
Rovers won a corner and then Fenton cleared out to Guy, who played a through ball in to Heffernan to the left, he steadied himself before hitting a shot across Guerret but he parried it away for Austin to clear.
After 10 minutes, Guy was brought down by Austin as he was going for goal. As the last defender, Mr Gallagher, the referee, brought out the red card and asked Austin to leave the field and have a warm bath. On the quarter hour, Guy was brought down in the penalty area and a penalty awarded. McINDOE stepped up and planted his shot past the keeper's right hand.
The Swans hit back quickley with Robinson on the left, passing two defenders but hitting the side netting. Immediately, Fenton put Guy away down the right but his low cross, intended for McIndoe at the far post, was cut out by Guerret. After 24 minutes, out of the blue, RICKETTS, on the left, easily rounded Offiong and, from the angle of the area, shot just inside the near post, with Fenton blocking Budtz's view.
2 minutes later, Guy was uphended in the box by Tate but the referee didn't want to know about it. The play became a bit ragged as Swansea tried to slow the game down and keep the Rovers at bay. Cautions were dished out like confetti in the period up to the break. Ravenhill and McDaid for the Rovers, Martinez and Tate for Swansea all earned the ire of Mr Gallagher. Time ran down, with the Rovers having most of the play but not able to make the most of their one man advantage.
Second Half
The home team started brightly in the second half, gaining a couple of corners in the early minutes, one producing a header by Heffernan saved by Guerret and the other cleared. On 52 minutes, some good football by the visitors gave Connor a chance of a crack at goal forcing Budtz to save at the foot of the near post.
Four minutes later and the Rovers produced their own brand of passing, the final pass by Ravenhill to Offiong, on the right, being hit first time, hard and low past the far post.
The Rovers continued to enjoy most of the play and had a great chance on 73 minutes when McIndoe put Guy in on the right but poor control by Guy allowed Guerret to collect the ball and the chance was lost. On 85 minutes, the Rovers pressure finally paid off when Fenton in the right corner gave the ball to HEFFERNAN. He survived one tackle before hitting a cracker, which Guerret pushed out to him and at the second attempt he hit it hard and low into the bottom far corner of the net.
Stung by the prospect of defeat, the League leaders pushed forward. Forbes broke through the Rovers backline and hit a terrific shot that Budtz tipped over the bar. It was all Swansea in the dying minutes, winning three corners, the last of which, Guerret, the keeper came up for. Thus, we had the spectacle of Budtz punching the ball off Guerret's head and Forte picking the ball up and racing down to the other end with everyone chasing him. He aimed for the empty net from 40 yards but saw it go wide.
The Rovers ran out winners by 2 goals to 1.
