The Burnley striker was dismissed by referee Steve Bennett 31 minutes into the goalless draw for a second bookable offence.

O'Driscoll, however, thought that Thompson had not touched Matthew Mills in the incident which led to his sending-off but that he did think that Thompson had landed a punch on Mills which earned him only a yellow card 20 minutes earlier.

"I didn't think Steve Thompson touched Matthew Mills at all for his second booking.

"But in the previous incident when they were both booked I thought he threw a punch.

On the draw which took Rovers off the foot of the table, O'Driscoll commented: "We kept possession of the ball well and competed well against arguably the form team of the league.

"However, I think we just missed that killer touch."
