Martin Woods-Not sure what reception i'll get from Rotherham fans
"I don't know what sort of reception I can expect from the fans," said the former Millers' star.
"I enjoyed my time there and the fans were always great to me and I just hope that they understood why I had to leave."
Woods, who joined Rovers on a four-year deal two years ago, has remained close friends with several of his former Rotherham team-mates and took in several games at the Don Valley Stadium last season.
"They did really well last season and I fancy them to win League Two next season and I hope that they do," he said.
"It was obviously a blow to have to leave Millmoor but I feel that they are going in the right direction."
There were doubts whether Woods would it make to today's game when being told that he would need a double hernia operation within a few days of reporting back for pre-season training earlier this month.
But he has made a speedy recovery and was able to play well over half the game in last weekend's warm-up game at Barrow.
"There is never a good time to have an operation during pre-season, which is a very important time of the year for a professional footballer, but having it when I did has not really had an adverse affect on my fitness.
"I'll be looking to get at least an hour of game time under my belt today in what is the first of three friendlies in eight days.
"Things are going well and the squad has fitted together well. It has probably helped in that respect that we haven't had a lot of new faces -though we'll probably have a couple of trialists in today."
