Lockwood relieved with new deal

Doncaster central defender Adam Lockwood has spoken of his relief after putting last season's injury nightmare behind him. Lockwood missed most of the last campaign after breaking a bone in his foot, but was handed a new two-year deal in May and started in Tuesday night's 1-0 win over West Brom. Asked if a starting place is his to lose, Lockwood told the club's official website: "That's the manager's decision. Every player is fighting for his place whether that's at the start of the season or halfway through." Speaking about his new deal, the 28-year-old added: "It's really nice. In football it's a strange business, you meet a lot of characters and I like to think when you give your all when you train and play you'll get your just rewards and people will stand up and take notice. "Hopefully you can keep improving and people will do right by you. Obviously with my recent injuries it can go against you sometimes, but you have to ride it out, keep on top of it and keep going. "Everyday I'm in this job I count myself lucky and I try and work as hard as I can to improve as much as I can."
