Glynn Snodin - I hope Paul Green gets a good reception
THE big talking point for Doncaster fans is the return of Paul Green in tonights game with Derby.
I hope Paul gets a good reception for all the years service he gave the club and what he did for Rovers.
He came through the ranks and did very well in helping the team come up through the divisions.
He gave the club great service and fans shouldn't forget that because there's not many players that do that nowadays - all those days have gone.
When he was a kid Paul got a knock back when he left Sheffield Wednesday because they were saying he was too small to make it.
But when we were in charge at Rovers myself, Ian and my dad held some trials and all of us picked Paul out.
We were all thrilled with him and could see what great talent he had - but we knew we would have to be patient and wait for him to grow.
What he brings to Derby is energy because his fitness levels are magnificent.
He's an honest player who can get from box-to-box - if he's needed to defend he gets back but can also get forward into the area and nip in for a few goals.
Derby have recently appointed a new manager in Nigel Clough and he will have completely changed the way they play.
Nigel did a great job at Burton, which is a different level of football, but he will be hoping to have similar success at Derby.
It's going to take time but he will get his way of doing things across to the players and he will be hoping to emulate what his dad did at the club.
It's a shame to see Tuesday's opponents Charlton, one of my former clubs, struggling because it was a great family club.
Hard work from Alan Curbishley, Steve Gritt and Mervyn Day - even before I went there - took them into the Premiership which was a great achievement from where they were.
Stability was the key to their success and people looked at them saying 'we could do with doing a Charlton' and wanted to emulate what they did.
When Alan left the club began slipping down that slope and then you begin to realise what a good thing you had at the time.
Prediction: Like Doncaster, Derby have been on a good run of late and both sides are playing with confidence so I'll go for a 1-1 draw. But I think Rovers will go to Charlton and win 2-1.
