Doncaster's James Hayter on ex team mate Jermaine Defoe

Hayter said: "He scored 10 goals in 10 games and finished the season with 18."

Bournemouth legend Hayter finished The Cherries' top scorer most seasons during his long career at Dean Court, but not that season.

He said: "I played a slightly different role that year playing behind Steve Fletcher and Defoe and only scored 12.

"But as long as the team scored goals, and we won games, it didn't really matter to me who got the goals.

"You could tell then that Jermaine was going to be a big star in the game - his finishing was unbelievable.

"It will be nice to see him again tonight, and if he plays he will certainly pose a big threat to us and will need very careful watching.

"Spurs have got four first-class top strikers so I'm not sure who they will play tonight. But they started with Defoe and Robbie Keane and they've struck up a good partnership so manager Harry Redknapp will probably feel that they are his best front two at this moment in time.

"They've got Peter Crouch who, if he starts on the bench, can come on and give a team something different if that's what's required on the night.

"Spurs have got such a strong squad that Harry could make one or two changes and not really weaken the team.

"It would be a case of an international coming in for an international so whichever team he picks it is going to be a very difficult game for us.

"Spurs have made their best start for years and they are playing some great football and scoring a lot of goals, so as I say, it is going to be a really big test for us. It is always good to test yourself against a top side and we are all looking forward to it."

Jos van Nieuwstadt would love to have been doing this tonight at the Keepmoat - challenging Jermain Defoe.

The Rovers defender is doing so in Holland colours when they played England in a European Under 21 Championship qualifier at Derby's Pride Park in 2001.

Defoe's England edged it that night 1-0 (Michael Carrick scoring). Van Nieuwstadt is on his way back to fitness for Rovers after a hernia op.

Also in the England side that night was Spurs' defender Ledley King although he won't feature in tonight's clash.
