Oster signed for Rovers on six-month terms in the summer and has done enough to be offered a longer-term deal.
"It has turned out to be a good decision to come here," said the 31year-old, who expects his agent to be available for talks with Rovers this week.
"As a player you are always happy when you are playing and I've played quite a few times.
"We've also had some great results of late and we've won five of our last seven games. That has helped turn our season around. Prior to our current run, we were playing some decent football but we weren't getting our rewards in some games and the pleasing thing of late is that has happened.
"We probably haven't played as well in some of the games during the last few weeks as we did earlier in the season when we either drew or lost. But that is football; you don't have to play brilliantly every week to win a game.
"We've kept a lot of clean sheets of late so obviously the defensive side of our game has picked up really well and Billy (Sharp) has been taking his chances, so it has been good all round.
"I like to get forward and that is how the manager wants me to play in most games; it depends on what formation he wants us to play.
"When we play the diamond formation, or three in midfield, it gives me a bit more of a licence to get forward.
"I'm best at taking people on and either creating chances for other people or myself.
"I've not scored yet and it is starting to become a bit of a burden. I've never been a prolific scorer but I scored about five or six at Crystal Palace last year and I'd like to be around that tally this season.
