The strong starting lineup of Warrington, Marples, Ryan, Fenton, Foster, Tierney, Doolan, Green, McIndoe, Blundell & Fortune-West saw a remarkable 5 goals ruled out by an over zealous linesman in a game marked for its good humour but hectic pace.
The final score of 4-0 was nowhere near an indication of the total domination.
On the catering front the Pies were excellent, with Pasty and Peas seeming a big favourite and with Past and Peas for a quid there was very little chance of any unhappy Rovers fans. Watching the game from the upper floor bar with Cold lager on tap and wonderful Pennine scenery to enjoy it was hard to imagine the season beginning. As the sun and the evening went on it didn't seem a bad place to be, and I would heartily recommend a trip to Stocksbridge for anyone who appreciates a good bit of catering and liquid refreshment.
