Southampton Football Club
Home: St. Mary’s
Capacity: 32,689
Nickname:The Saints
Rivals: Portsmouth
Southampton's return to the Championship last summer after a 3 year exile in League 1 looks to be a short one, as The Saints have pushed on from last years successful promotion and have been sitting pretty at the top of the league for most of the season, playing a positive, attacking brand of football since the arrival of manager Nigel Adkins, Southampton look almost unstoppable as a second successive promotion is on the cards, barring a serious dip in form.

Player name: Rickie Lambert
Date of birth: 16 Feb 1982
Nationality: English
Position: Striker
Squad no: 7
Recently named the Championships Player of the Season, the Liverpool born front man has fired Southampton though the divisions since his arrival at St. Mary’s, costing around £1 million in 2009 from Bristol Rovers, after scoring 59 in 139 starts in his 3 years with the Pirates. At 6 foot 2, Lambert can be mistaken for a target man but he is a very mobile striker with a great range of goals in his arsenal, from inside and outside the box, notching up 85 goals in 151 appearances since signing, his first coming on his second day at work in a 2-0 win against Northampton Town in the league cup, and also includes a goal at Wembley in the Saints 4-1 win in the Johnstones Paint Trophy Final against Carlisle United.

Player name: Adam Lallana
Date of Birth: 10 May 1988
Nationality: English
Position: Midfielder
Squad no: 20
Helping Lambert out in the goal scoring department in the last couple of years, Lallana has become a familiar name on Southampton’s goal scoring roster with 20 in last seasons’ promotion campaign and 12 so far this with his adventurous runs into the penalty box from midfield Lallana can be just as much of a worry for opposition defenders as Lambert. Southampton’s style of football and freedom in the midfield can allow Lallana to find space in the wide areas as well as playing in the centre of ‘the park’ to also be a great provider of goals as well earning him third place in the Championships top 10 players this year only missing out to Lambert (1st) and Cardiff City’s Peter Whittingham (2nd).

Player name: Jack Cork
Date of Birth: 25 Jun 1989
Nationality: English
Position: Midfielder
Squad no: 8
Yet to score in his two spells with the Saints the midfielder’s importance to the team can not be underestimated with a hard working industrious player who has shown himself to be versatile having to be played at right back earlier in the season. Signed in the summer from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee has now given Jack the chance to progress in a settled environment having spent previous years out on loan for first team football including two spells at Burnley, Watford, Coventry. He also spent time at Scunthorpe while Adkins was in charge and his first time at Southampton came in the 2008/09 when he made 24 appearances in all competitions
