Doncaster Rovers will try and sign Jason Shackell when the transfer window opens in January.
The central defender's loan spell ends with the home game against Leicester City next Monday after which he returns to Wolves.
He has done well in his time with Rovers and manager Sean O'Driscoll is understood to be wanting to bring him back.
It is unlikely that he will be figuring in the Premier League at Wolves and Rovers will be hopeful that they can sort out a deal, even a loan to the end of the season if there wasn't a permanent arrangement.
Meanwhile, O'Driscoll's No 2, Richard O'Kelly, has adopted a philosophical approach to the problems encountered in the build-up to the club's Boxing Day game at Coventy.
"If the ground is frozen you can' t run around on it so you have to deal with things in a different way," he said.
"The fact that we've been able to add to our backroom staff with Ross Burbeary, who understands the fitness needs that are required, has been a big help and the players have also been educated over 18 months.
"You can work in other ways when the weather is bad at this time of the year, such as the tactical side of the game using video technology. So we've found other ways to occupy ourselves to prepare for the game against Coventry.
"Christmas is an awkward period because you've got your families and relations to think about and you've got all the things around it, but what we've always tried to do is to treat it as normal as possible.
"We don't try and do anything special but try and prepare exactly the same as for any other game.
"Throughout the season you are looking for the next result and the next performance and that doesn't change just because it's Christmas.
"Things will be done exactly the same as they were in August and they will be done exactly the same if we are still here in May.
"We are preaching performance, performance, performance - not just on a Saturday - but day in, day out.
"Doing the right thing at the right time for the right reason and the more you do that, the more results you get."
Skipper Brian Stock, who hasn't played for three months following ankle surgery, could well be on the subs bench at the Ricoh Arena.
"Obviously Brian hasn't been able to train on the frozen pitches this week but he trained three days with the players last week," he said.
"Because of his mindset and ability, Brian is one of those players you could just throw in and he'd have no problem."
