| Wales manager John Toshack cast his eye over Doncaster Rovers midfielder Brian Stock at the weekend when they visited Cardiff City |
Toshack has kept in close contact with Rovers' influential midfielder during his three month lay off with an ankle injury.
Although Stock, who returned to action in the 2-1 win over Watford last month, admits he's not yet reached full match fitness, he is understandably keen to return to the international fold as soon as possible.
"John Toshack has stayed in touch with me ever since I've been injured," revealed Stock.
"He's phoned me numerous times and it's good to know that he still's ringing me. To come to the games is even better.
"I felt like I did alright (against Cardiff], hopefully he feels the same way."
The former Bournemouth playmaker admits he's been a big fan of what Toshack has done for Welsh football - and he would love an international recall.
"He's done a lot for Welsh football with the likes of Aaron Ramsey. You could list so many players that's he's given a chance," added Stock.
"He's brought the younger generation through and now the future does look bright for Wales football."
The weekend's 2-1 defeat to the Bluebirds was disappointing for the whole Rovers squad, but Stock has urged the club to quickly move and bounce back at home to Reading this Saturday.
"I think the most important thing is for the lads to get their heads up," he stressed. "They were all really disappointed in the changing room - and rightly so.
"But we've got to look to the positives and we can't let that defeat affect us. We've got to move on to the next game and give the same performance."
Rovers boss O'Driscoll admitted defeat to City was "hard to swallow", but is glad to see Stock back in the frame after such a long lay-off.
"He's still not up to match fitness, but he wants the ball. If he can get all the other players around him then we do look more fluid going forward." |
